Coming off a tough loss against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, the Madison Mallards (11-17) headed north for a 2-game series against the Green Bay Booyah (10-19).
The Booyah opened up the scoring early in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 4 runs off an error and and a pair of RBI singles from Johnny Hipsman and Jake Berg.
After a brief rain delay, the Mallards answered back, starting with a triple from Joe Hauser (Arizona State). At the end of the 2nd inning, the game was back within reach at a score 4-2 in favor of the Booyah.
In the 4th inning, Alex Iadisernia (Elon) doubled to centerfield sending Cam Cratic (Missouri State) home to tie the ballgame at 4-4.
In the bottom half of the 4th inning, Jake Berg hit a solo home run to put the Booyah back ahead 5-4.
Joe Hauser (Arizona State) doubled to bring home a run and then scored himself on an RBI single from Nick Gonzales (USF), putting the Mallards back in front 6-5 in the top of the 5th inning.The Booyah answered back yet again in the bottom of the 5th inning, tying the game at 6-6.
The Mallards really broke open the scoring in the 6th inning with a 2-run triple off the bat of JT Benson (Louisville) followed by a 2-run home run from Drake Baldwin (Missouri). When all was said and done in the top of the 6th, the Mallards held a 10-6 lead.
The Booyah would tack on a few more runs, but the Mallards were able to secure an insurance run for themselves. With the score at 11-8 in the 8th inning, Theo Denlinger (Bradley) came in the game to close it out.
Green Bay would add 1 more run, but it was not enough. The Mallards came out on top in a back-and-forth battle with a final score of 11-9.
The Mallards will stay in Green Bay for the second game of their series against the Booyah. They will play again Thursday, July 1st at 6:35 PM.
