Following a series sweep of the Booyah in Green Bay, the Madison Mallards (14-17) hosted the Wisconsin Woodchucks (20-12) on Friday night for the first in a two-game set and came out on top 6-2.
The Mallards got a gem of a start from Ryan O’Hara (Illinois). O’Hara made his first start of the season after making eight appearances out of the pen and threw six shutout innings, only allowing one hit. He was credited with the win.
The Mallards scored a run in the third on a bases-loaded walk from Matt Scannell (Princeton) and then a run in the fourth on an RBI-single from JT Benson (Louisville).
In the seventh inning the Woodchucks scored both of their runs on the night after O’Hara exited. However in the bottom of the seventh the Mallards responded, tacking on three runs of their own.
Catcher Drake Baldwin (Missouri State) went 4-for-4 on the night including a two-run double in that seventh inning. Baldwin also scored on an RBI-single from Nick Gonzalez (USF).
Theo Denlinger (Bradley) came in the ninth inning and slammed the door to close out the win. He topped out at 101 mph on his fastball in the inning.
Tonight was the first in a two-game set with the Woodchucks, with tomorrow’s first pitch being scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Ernie Day (Iowa Western) will get the start for the Ducks who are looking for the sweep and their fourth straight win.
