Following a split in a doubleheader on Monday, the Madison Mallards (11-9) went to Fond Du Lac once again to take on the Dock Spiders and came away with a 5-1 loss.
The Mallards had just two hits on the night. They scored their only run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly from JT Benson (Louisville) in the fourth.
Starting pitcher Joey Kalafut (Edgewood) had a solid outing in his first start of the season. The two-way player pitched 4.2 innings, giving up just one earned run and striking out two.
The Dock Spiders starter Connor McKenna (Truman State) outmatched him though, as he went six innings allowing one run and two hits and striking out two. He walked five batters but was able to work around that and not allow more than one to score.
The Dock Spiders best performance at the plate came from Calvin Harris (Mississippi). He had two hits and drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.
This concludes the series with Fond Du Lac, as the Mallards are now just 2-6 against the Dock Spiders this season. Tomorrow, the Mallards will have an off day along with the rest of the Northwoods League before coming back home on Thursday to host Wisconsin Rapids at 6:35 p.m..
