Following a series loss in Fond Du Lac, the Madison Mallards (11-9) are fresh off an off-day and are set to host the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (7-13) for the first of a home-and-home series.
The Mallards split a doubleheader with the Dock Spiders on Monday and then lost 5-1, picking up just two hits on Tuesday night.
Starting on the mound for the Mallards will be Eliot Turnquist (UW-Milwaukee). Turnquist will be making his ninth start of the season as he currently holds a 6.90 ERA through 30 total innings pitched.
On the hill for the Rafters will be right-hander Nate Hemmerling (Lakeland). Hemmerling has made four starts on the season and has a 1.32 ERA in 27.1 total innings pitched.
This season the Rafters own the season series against Madison 7-3. The last matchup between these teams came back on July 13th. The Mallards were down by one heading into the ninth when Alex Iadisernia (Elon) hit a two run walk-off home run.
The Ducks currently sit in third place in the Great Lakes West division, two games behind Fond Du Lac and 1.5 games behind the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The Green Bay Booyah are just a half game back of the Mallards as well, with Lakeshore and Wisconsin Rapids then rounding out the division.
This is the first of another home-and-home series with the Rafters as these teams will play tomorrow in Wisconsin Rapids at 6:35 p.m. It will be the final matchup between the Rafters and Mallards this season.
