Following a 3-2 win on Sunday against the Booyah, the Madison Mallards (14-11) returned home to the Duck Pond at Warner Park to host the Lakeshore Chinooks (10-16) and came away with a 4-2 victory.
The Chinooks went on top right away in the first on an RBI-single from Griffin Doersching (Oklahoma State) after Nathan Aide (Illinois) doubled to lead off the game.
The Mallards answered that in the bottom of the first though as JT Benson (Louisville) stayed hot and hit an RBI-triple to tie the game at one.
The Chinooks tacked on another run in the top of the second, and from there it was a pitcher’s duel. Joey Kalafut (Edgewood) pitched well for Madison, going six innings and allowing just two runs.
The sixth was when the Mallards took over, as they had a two-out rally to put up three runs and took a 4-2 lead. Cam Cratic (Missouri State) had an RBI-single and Alex Iadisernia (Elon) hit a two-run double.
The Mallards bullpen then shut down the Chinooks as Matt Scannell (Princeton), Luke Hansel (Madison College) and Jared Fong (Washington – St. Louis) each pitched scoreless innings. Fong picked up his sixth save of the season.
This was the first of a two game series with Lakeshore. Tomorrow, the Mallards will be off as the Northwoods League hosts it’s Major League Dreams Showcase in La Crosse. The series finale between these teams will be on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. at the Duck Pond once again
