The Madison Mallards (15-11) hosted the Lakeshore Chinooks (10-17) on Wednesday night and made history, pitching the first team no-hitter at the Duck Pond at Warner Park!
It was a combined no-hitter with starting pitcher Eliot Turnquist (UW-Milwaukee) going the first four, Sam Vomhof (UW-Whitewater) going three perfect innings and Kade Lancour (UW-Whitewater) closing the door in the eighth and ninth.
The Mallards pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts in their no-hitter, with Turnquist and Vomhof each striking out five and Lancour picking up three in his two innings.
Offensively, the Mallards took the lead thanks to a four-run seventh. JT Benson (Louisville) and Bryant Shellenbarger (Akron) each had RBI singles in the innings.
Then in the eighth, the Mallards all-stars Drake Baldwin (Missouri State) and Alex Iadisernia (Elon) hit back-to-back doubles with two outs to tack on an insurance run.
This was the series finale with Lakeshore and it was a sweep for the Mallards. They now lead the season series with the Chinooks 6-3 with two more matchups set between these teams.
Next up the Mallards will stay home to host the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders for the start of a home-and-home. First pitch tomorrow is at 6:35 p.m. at the Duck Pond with the following night starting at 6:35 p.m. in Fond Du Lac.
