Following a 5-0 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks, the Madison Mallards (15-12) hosted the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders (18-9) and came away with a 7-6 loss.
Fond Du Lac got the bats hot right away as Nick Terrell (Ripon College) hit a leadoff home run to left. The Dock Spiders also got a two-run bomb from Collin Trembley (DeSales) in the second.
In the seventh, Drake Baldwin (Missouri State) pinch hit and drove home the fifth run of the game for the Mallards with an RBI double.
Then in the eighth, JT Benson (Louisville) tied the game at six with his sixth home run of the season out to right-center field on top of the video board at the Duck Pond.
In the top of the ninth, a couple of Mallards errors in the middle infield led to a sacrifice fly from Jackson Loftin (Oral Roberts) and that ended up being the winning run for Fond Du Lac.
Fond Du Lac moves back into a tie with the Wisconsin Woodchucks for first place in the Great Lakes West division as Wisconsin beat Battle Creek tonight. Madison now sits three games back of first.
This was the start of a home-and-home set as these teams will match up in Fond Du Lac tomorrow at the same first pitch time of 6:35 p.m. Ryan O’Hara (Illinois) is set to start on the mound for the Ducks.
