The Madison Mallards went on the road to face the Lakeshore Chinooks at Kapco Park in Mequon after winning their previous four ballgames including the first of the two-game series last night.
Mallard starter Ryan O’Hara (Illinois) gave up three earned runs on five hits with five walks over three innings pitched. Peyton Winebarger (North Carolina A&T State) followed with an earned run allowed on three hits in the next three innings. Kade Lancour (UW-Whitewater) finished the game for the Mallards with two scoreless innings including four strikeouts.
The Mallards jumped on the board first as Cam Cratic (Missouri State) scored on a JT Benson (Louisville) single to left field in the top half of the first. The Chinooks tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, then took the lead with a run each on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third. A one run triple in the bottom of the fourth ended Lakeshore’s scoring for the night at four runs.
The Mallards comeback started in the top of the sixth with another Benson single that scored Liam Moreno (Missouri State). The Mallards were able to cut the deficit to one in the top of the 9th as Moreno walked with two outs and the bases loaded, but were unable to finish the job losing 4-3, snapping their four game win streak, and moving to 21-14 in the second half of the season.
Chinooks starter Tommy Lamb (3-4, 3.09 ERA) came away with the win, Jim Jarecki (1) picked up the save, and Ryan O’Hara (2-3, 4.85 ERA) was charged with the loss for the Mallards.
Tomorrow, August 13th, the Mallards host the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in the first game of the final series of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm at Warner Park.
