Mallards Beat at Home on Father’s Day

Madison loses second straight one run game at Warner Park

Madison, WI – The Mallards dropped their third straight on Sunday afternoon in a 4-3 final at Warner Park against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in their fifth matchup of the season.

For a sixth consecutive game, the Mallards were scored on first to begin the contest. Two 1st inning errors plated a run for the Dock Spiders with Mallards’ right hander Beau Nichols on the mound. Nichols, making his fourth start of the year, was hit with a couple loopy base hits and five walks over three innings of work. Although he left with the score 2-0, Nichols only allowed the one earned run. Mitchell Leroy was the second arm of the day for Madison. The other two runs in the game were scored against Leroy in the top of the 5th inning on a two-run infield single from Nick Mitchell

With Fond du Lac leading 4-0, the Mallards offense was suddenly awakened against Fondy’ reliever Andrew Pogue. With two outs in the 5th, Mallards’ shortstop Noah Smith doubled, Jaxson Crull and Tommy Tavarez walked to put multiple baserunners on board for the first time in the game for Madison. After Smith scored from a wild pitch, J.J. Rollon singled in Crull to cut the Dock Spiders’ lead in half. The Ducks were able to score one more run in the 8th inning off an error from Fond du Lac third baseman Connor Manthey. Following the lead being cut to one, the Dock Spiders called on Christian Ruebeck for his first save opportunity. With the bases loaded, Ruebeck strikes out the next two batters to finish the inning. Ruebeck slammed the door in the 9th by striking out the side.

The Mallards travel to Herr Baker Field in Fond du Lac tomorrow for the final matchup of the first half with the Dock Spiders. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM and action can be found on the Northwoods League website.
