Mallards Showcase Dominant Pitching in Victory
Madison winners of two straight after win at Warner Park
Madison, WI – The Mallards have put together a two-game win streak while showing special stuff on the mound after a 5-1 win at home against Wausau on Tuesday night in the first of a two-game home-and-home series with the Woodchucks.
Wausau got off to an early start against Mallards’ starter Ryan O’Hara in the 1st inning with an RBI single from Woodchucks’ left fielder Mark Schallenberger. Following the 1st inning run, O’Hara (W, 1-1, 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6 K) settled in for one of his best starts of the season for Madison. The left hander from Illinois strikes out a season-high six in his first victory of the year. The Mallards quickly responded in the bottom half of the first frame with an RBI single from Josh Caron (2-4, RBI). Noah Smith singled in a run in the 2nd inning. The only extra base hits from the Mallards came in the bottom of the 3rd when Nick Gonzalez, making his debut, doubled and was followed by Marcus Brodil’s first triple of the season. The Mallards would score one more run in the 4th inning on an RBI groundout from Jaxson Crull.
The Ducks followed Ryan O’Hara’s superb fourth start by leaning on Declan Elias and Bryce Woody. Elias only allows three base runners and works around some trouble to strand a couple of Woodchucks on base in the 7th including a crafty 3-6-1 double play in the 6th inning. Woody struggled with the first batter he faced but quickly went back to his regular self by whizzing fastballs by Woodchuck batters and closing the door on Wausau to complete the 5-1 win.
The Mallards hit the road for one game in Wausau before hosting the next four games at Warner Park. Mallards’ coverage of the game can be found on Mixlr (MadisonMallards) with first pitch slated for 6:35 PM from Athletic Park.
