Mallards Win Total into Double Digits, Win at Fond du Lac

Madison wins first game in four days in well pitched outing

Fond du Lac, WI – The Mallards were able to snap their three-game losing skid in Fond du Lac tonight by a final score of 5-2 with the Dock Spiders at Herr Baker Field.

Mallards’ starter Michael Finan (W, 1-1) earned his first victory of the season in what was his best start through four appearances. Finan (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) entered with an earned run average of over nine and it was a pleasant sight for Pitching Coach Gordon Cardenas to see. Finan was followed by three different arms. Trent Hodgdon was the first out of the bullpen. After struggling in his first two outings of the year, Hodgdon impressed through his two innings of work by striking out two and only handing out two free passes (one walk, one hit-by-pitch). Gauge Lockhart and Steven Lacey (S, 2) sat down the final six Dock Spiders for the Mallards to win their 10th game of the season.

For the first time in seven contests, the Ducks were able to get on the board first by plating three in the top of the 3rd. Center fielder J.J. Rollon singled home the first run of the game after back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Immediately after, J.T. Mabry singled to the same spot to drive in another. One more run would come home to score in the frame for Madison. The Mallards were able to buy some insurance in the top of the 7th inning when Mabry walked with the bases juiced. After a pitching change for the Dock Spiders, the new arm, Alex Vera threw a wild pitch that resulted in Mallards’ run number five.

The Mallards head back home to host seven of their next ten games at Warner Park starting with a home-and-home set with the Wausau Woodchucks. Coverage of the game can be found under the ‘Live Action’ tab on the Northwoods League website with first pitch slated for 6:35 PM.
