Madison defeated Lakeshore in their final matchup of the year on Wednesday
Mequon, WI – Madison and Lakeshore wrapped up their season series on Wednesday night at Kapco Park. The Mallards were charged by a three-run 8th inning that powered them to their second straight win, 3-2.
The final contest of the year played between the Mallards and Chinooks was flying by due to strong starting pitching from Madison’s Davis Welch and Lakeshore’s Jason Buhl. Both offenses had scattered hits but were unable to score through the first six innings of the game.
The scoring started against Madison’s bullpen when Carsen Hansen, who homered in extra innings on Monday against the Mallards, doubled off of Ben Kasten to score two runs in the bottom of the 7th. Donnie Scott’s offense was able to swing back in the top of the 8th against the combination of Buhl and Tyler Deleskiewicz. Keenan Taylor smashed his fourth homer of the year to get Madison on the board. Later in the inning, Canyon Brown delivered a two-out single to score two runs and give Madison their first and only lead, 3-2.
Lakeshore threatened in the bottom of the 9th after Cade Hansen hit Adam Cootway with the first pitch of the inning. After Hansen struck out Drew Townsend, Scott called on closer Tyler Avery out of the pen to slam the door with Cootway on second. Avery would record the final two outs of the game quickly including a fly-out of former Mallard, Sam Vomhof.
Madison returns to Warner Park on Thursday night to open a two-game series with the spiraling Wausau Woodchucks. The first-place Mallards will throw the first pitch at 6:05 P.M. CST in Madison.
