The Madison Mallards can not return home soon enough. The Mallards (1-5) lost their fifth contest of this young season Monday evening in Alexandria. Things started out well for the Mallards, jumping out to a 4-1 lead, propelled by a two run double off the bat of Abe Aguirre.
The wheels fell off for the Ducks in the bottom half of the sixth when the Beetles (4-2) plated four runs off Matt Borman. The big blow came when Borman was unable to hold onto the ball while attempting to tag out a runner trying to score off a passed ball. With that run scoring, the Beetles tied the game at four and went on to score once more that inning. The Beetles didn’t look back from there, eventually sending the Mallards back to Madison with a 8-4 defeat.
Cody Hall started for the Mallards, pitching four strong innings before giving way to Borman.
The Mallards return home to play 11 of their next 14 games at the friendly confines of Warner Park.
Andy Sigerich is scheduled to take the mound in the Mallards home opener Wednesday night against the Mankato MoonDogs. Gametime is 7:05 PM and tickets are on sale online at www.mallardsbaseball.com and at our new office, still located at 2920 N. Sherman Ave.
