The Madison Mallards have reached an agreement to broadcast over half of their 2002 season on WSUM FM 91.7 – Madison Student Radio & their entire season via www.mallardsbaseball.com the official website of the Mallards. WSUM is the student radio station on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
WSUM will broadcast every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday Mallards game for a total of 37 games this summer. All games will be web-cast on Mallardsbaseball.com made possible through services provided by Aurora Solutions of Madison.
The games will be called by a rotating set of student broadcasters providing a unique opportunity for the students to prepare for careers in sports broadcasting.
“We are extremely excited to begin a working relationship with the Madison Mallards.” WSUM Sports Director Evan Cohen said. “We feel it is a perfect mix of collegiate athletes as well as collegiate broadcasters, both of whom are looking to further their respective careers.”
Cohen continued “The WSUM sports department is made up of aspiring broadcasters and what better way to build on that career goal than to be participating in a live remote broadcast of baseball.”
?This is a perfect match in so many ways.? Mallards Director of Marketing & Baseball Operations Vern Stenman said. ?We really want to define ourselves as Madison?s collegiate baseball team & our goals are both so similar in that we both are preparing college kids for the next level ? we are very excited to work with WSUM.?
The first broadcast will be via the web during a pre-season game June 5th at 6:05 vs. the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The first radio broadcast will be on Friday June 7th from Wausau, WI at 7:05 for the Mallards regular season opener.
The Mallards regular season home opener is Sat. June 8th at 7:05 with a huge fireworks show after the game. Season tickets are available at the Mallards office right now, and single game tickets go on sale Sat. May 18 at 10:00 at Warner Park.
