The Madison Mallards remained red-hot Wednesday night at Warner Park, as they defeated the Mankato MoonDogs 3-0 in the night cap of today?s day/night doubleheader. Cody Hall pitched six innings of two hit baseball to improve his record to 3-1. Mark Moriarty and Daryl Maday pitched the final three innings, keeping the MoonDogs at bay and helping improve the team?s record to 21-7 in the second half while also lowering the team?s magic number to two. Maday struck out four batters over the final two innings to earn his second save of the season.
Jay Johnson, Chad Frk, and Mike Dury each knocked in runs for the Mallards, with Frk and Johnson recording a hit apiece and Dury recording two doubles. Dury finished the day going 2-3 in each of today?s games. Centerfielder Greg Thomson went 2-4 for the Ducks, scoring one run and stealing his 27th base of the season.
With a win tomorrow and a Waterloo loss, the Mallards can wrap up the second half South Division title. The Ducks will attempt to live up to their end of the deal tomorrow night at 7:05 against the MoonDogs sending Ricky Bauer (6-2) to the mound. The Mallards organization suggests purchasing tickets for remaining home games ahead of time either online at www.mallardsbaseball.com, or at our office located at Warner Park.
