Returning Mallards outfielder Ryan Rogowski was prefect from the plate, going 5-for-5 with an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases in the second game of Illinois doubleheader against Minnesota Sunday. Rogowski continues to pace the Big Ten leading Illini and is hitting a team high .377 with two home runs, 23 RBI?s and continues to lead the Big Ten with 28 stolen bases.
Casey Baron was lights out coming out of the bullpen for Maryland this week in the Terrapins 10-5 victory over Longwood. The left-hander pitched four innings of relief work allowing just one hit and no runs, while striking out three. Baron improved to 3-1 on the season after recording the victory Tuesday.
Returning Mallards catcher Nate Trumm got the Northern Iowa offense rolling in the Panthers 3-2 victory over Bradley Sunday. Trumm homered for the fourth time this season, blasting a solo shot in the seventh inning for Northern Iowa?s first run of the game as the Panthers added two more in the seventh to secure the victory. Trumm was 2-4 on Friday with a run and an RBI and has helped the Panthers to a 5-0 record this week.
A pair of right handed pitchers from the University of Illinois-Chicago took the mound for the Flames this week. Ryan Zink threw two shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out one in UIC?s 3-2 victory over Youngstown State and followed that up with a seven inning complete game victory allowing two runs while striking out six. Zink is 6-5 on the season with a 4.01 ERA and has thrown 28 innings more than anyone else on the Flames pitching staff. Zach Peterson lasted 6 1/3 innings despite allowing 11 hits, six runs ? four of which were earned ? and struck out one as UIC knocked off Youngstown State 10-9. Peterson is 8-1 with a 3.47 ERA for UIC thus far in 2005.
Sophomore infielder Ryan Bond played a part in three of Indiana State?s nine runs in the Sycamores 9-4 victory over Wichita State on Saturday. Bond finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in Saturday?s contest. He is hitting .292 on the season with two home runs and 31 RBI?s.
