Mequon, WI – The Madison Mallards (38-28) dropped the opener of a two-game series to the Lakeshore Chinooks (41-26) on Wednesday night.
The Mallards took the lead in the top of the first inning, as Jonah Weathers (University of Louisville) hit an RBI single to give Madison a 1-0 lead. David Mysza (University of San Diego) answered in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run, putting Lakeshore ahead 2-1.
The score remained the same into the middle innings, as both starters settled in. Drayton Lou (St. Cloud State University) fired five strong innings, while Eli Niemiec (UW-Whitewater) dominated on the mound for Lakeshore.
Toufic Khabie (Stony Brook University) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the Lakeshore lead to 3-1. He continued his big night at the plate in the sixth, with a two-run double to give the Chinooks a 5-1 advantage.
Niemiec finished with eight innings on the mound, with just one run allowed, as the Chinooks cruised to a 5-1 win. He earned the win, while Lou was charged with the loss.
The Mallards face the Chinooks again on Thursday night in Mequon, with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. Madison returns home Friday night to take on the Green Bay Rockers at 6:35 p.m.
