THE DUCK POND – The Madison Mallards drew another record crowd to Warner Park Friday night — although the fans didn’t get to see a victory.
The Rochester Honkers scored four runs in the eighth inning to break open a 3-3 game en route to a 7-5 victory over Madison in a Northwoods League amateur baseball game.
The attendance of 6,018 broke the league record of 5,776 set by the Mallards a week earlier. It also was the largest crowd to watch a game in the city and, according to the team, the biggest crowd for a summer college league game.
Mike Miller and Chris Nowak each collected three hits as the Honkers (27-15 overall, 7-4 second half) banged out 12 singles against five pitchers.
Madison (26-16, 4-6) has lost five of its last seven games.
