ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Chris Denove hit a grand slam, and Brendan McGinn struck out 11 in eight dominating innings as the St. Cloud River Bats handed the Madison Mallards their worst loss of the season with a 10-0 rout in a Northwoods League game Tuesday afternoon at Dick Putz Field.

The Mallards (24-12 overall, 2-2 second half) managed just four hits off McGinn, who didn’t issue a walk as he improved to 3-2. Former Madison West athlete David Hrncirik had two of Madison’s hits.

A crowd of 2,009 watched St. Cloud (19-16, 1-3) pound out 13 hits against three Mallards pitchers to snap a five-game losing streak.

The River Bats also took advantage of four errors, four walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch as they beat Madison for the first time in six tries this season.
