The Mallards are excited to announce ten more players who have been signed for the 2007 season. All ten of these players play in the Big Ten Conference and saw action at their respective schools last weekend. Highlighting the group is 2006 Northwoods League All-Star Jordan Comadena, and Oshkosh, WI native, Michigan State outfielder Chris Roberts. Below is a complete listing (in alphabetical order) of the next ten players the Mallards have signed for the 2007 season. Opening Day is Thursday, May 31 at 7:05 vs. the Eau Claire Express.

Jordan Comadena, C/OF, Jr., Purdue. Comadena set two Mallard team records in 2006 by playing in all 68 games and compiling 259 at-bats. Comadena also led the team in runs (43), hits (61), doubles (11), and stolen bases (17). As a Boilermaker last season, he had a .255 batting average with 27 hits, including eight doubles and three home runs. Comadena led-off all three games versus Georgia last weekend.

Allan Donato, RHP, Jr., Purdue. Donato was a solid contributor out of the bullpen for the Mallards in 2006, posting a 0.49 ERA in 13 appearances. He limited opposing hitters to a .212 average on 14 hits. Donato appeared on the mound 13 times for the Boilermakers last season, getting the starting nod in six games. He is expected to be the closer for Purdue in 2007.

Dusty Napoleon, C/1B, Jr., University of Iowa. Napoleon hit .352 in Big Ten play for the Hawkeyes while starting 41 games at first base and five at catcher. He had a 16 game hitting streak from Apr. 1 through Apr. 22 and compiled 14 multi-hit games in 2006. Napoleon hit a two run double in Sunday’s win over Arkansas-Little Rock.

Eric Nielsen, C, So., Purdue. Nielsen hit .258 in 14 Big Ten games, making 10 starts for the 2006 Boilermakers. He threw out 12 of 28 potential base stealers (43%).

Chris Roberts, IF/OF, Fr., Michigan State. Selected in the 27th round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2006 MLB Draft, Roberts is rated as one of the top 100 Freshman and one of the top 140 high school players in the country by Baseball America. While at Oshkosh West he was named to Team Wisconsin, which recognizes the top players in the state. Roberts had four hits and 2 RBI’s in two games this past weekend against Auburn and Jacksonville.

Mark Sorensen, RHP, Jr., Michigan State. Sorensen threw 61.1 innings with 15 appearances and 10 starts for the 2006 Spartans. He was the Great Lakes Legion pitcher of the year for the Columbus All-Americans after posting a 6-0 record with a 1.71 ERA. His father, Lary, played 10 seasons in the Major Leagues with seven teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers from 1977 to 1980. Sorensen pitched 1.1 innings in relief in a 4-2 win over Jacksonville on Sunday.

Travis Sweet, INF/OF/P, Jr., University of Iowa. Sweet led the Hawkeyes with a .304 batting average, 22 stolen bases, and tied for the team lead with 17 multi-hit games last season. He also tied an Iowa record with five hits against Illinois on April 23. The versatile Sweet started 40 games at second base, six at pitcher, six at designated hitter, four at third base, and two in the outfield. He played in the Cape Cod League last summer.

Steve Turnbull, RHP, So., University of Iowa. Turnbull made 15 appearances and started four games for the Hawkeyes in 2006. He earned his first career victory in his debut when he allowed two hits and struck out four in 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief against Minnesota. Turnbull started and pitched four innings in a win over Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday.

Daniel Webb, OF, Jr., University of Illinois. Webb is a transfer from John A. Logan Community College where he led the team in batting average (.400), hits (80), doubles (21), and RBI (61) in 2006. He finished second in hitting in 2005 and ninth in 2006, with .369 and .323 averages, respectively, while playing for the Delaware Cows in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. He had two hits in Saturday’s game against Louisiana LaFayette.

Brandon Wikoff, INF/P, Freshman, University of Illinois. In 2006, Wikoff earned first team All-State honors by the Prep Baseball Report and Chicago Tribune while playing for Limestone High School in Peoria, Illinois. He hit .539 last season and had a combined 22-3 pitching record for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Wikoff had five hits and 2 RBI’s in a three game series against Louisiana LaFayette last weekend.
