Madison, WI – January 23, 2015. The Madison Mallards have announced that three position players will return for the 2015 season. Infielder Tony Butler (Madison College) and outfielders Logan Regnier (Central Michigan University) and Brian Rodemoyer (Illinois State University) will be back in Madison.
Butler, a 6'1", 175-pound Sun Prairie native will return to the Mallards for his second season after his first taste of the Northwoods League last year. Butler hit .272 with 16 RBIs in 26 games for the Mallards in 2014 after joining the team in the second half of the season. Butler’s versatility provided depth in the infield playing shortstop, third base and second base.
Butler will start his first season for Madison College in 2015. The sophomore transfer from Virginia made nine appearances with one start for the Cavaliers, who finished as the runner-up in the 2014 College World Series.
As a junior at Sun Prairie High School in 2012, Butler was named First-Team All-State. During that year, Butler set single season records for batting average (.521), hits (49), runs-scored (43), singles (34), and OBP (.638). Butler missed his senior season due to injury.
Regnier, a 6'2", 192-pound junior from Novi, Michigan will return to Madison for his second season after a solid summer in 2014. He appeared in 26 games and finished the season with a .298 batting average in 104 at-bats. He added one home run and three doubles.
As a sophomore with the Chippewas, Regnier had a .322 batting average with 69 hits and 22 RBIs in 214 at-bats. In 2013 as a true freshman, Regnier hit .288 with 62 hits, 27 RBIs and one home run. In high school, Regnier was ranked as the number ten player in Michigan according to MichiganBaseballProspect.org.
Rodemoyer, a 6'4", 225-pound redshirt junior from Western Springs, Illinois will also return to Madison for his second season. He appeared in 26 games, hitting .270 with three home runs and seven doubles in 89 at-bats.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2014, Rodemoyer started 32 out of the 49 games he appeared in for the Red Birds, hitting three home runs and 12 RBIs. In 2013 as a redshirt freshman, he appeared in 10 games including one start. In his senior year at Lyons Township High School in 2012, Rodemoyer led the Lyons to the ISHA 4A State Championship. He hit .417 with ten home runs and 45 RBIs. His numbers earned himself Chicago Tribune All-State second team honors, multiple all-area selections, and an All-West Suburban Conference selection.
