TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The Richmond Flying Mummies were three outs away from securing back-to-back wins before the Traverse City Pit Spitters erupted for five runs in the ninth inning to escape with an 8-7 victory Sunday afternoon at Turtle Creek Stadium.

Richmond falls to 10-19 on the season, while Traverse City improves to 19-11.

The Mummies took control with three runs in the third inning as Drew Phillips ripped a two-run triple before Colton Sims added an RBI single. Richmond stretched the lead to 6-1 in the fifth behind another two-run triple from Phillips and Sims’ RBI groundout before adding an insurance run on Austin Dick’s sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Jack Beyer allowed just one run over seven innings while scattering five hits. Braylon Sheefel surrendered two runs in the eighth, but Richmond still entered the ninth holding a 7-3 advantage.

Traverse City completed the comeback in the final frame, capitalizing on walks, stolen bases, timely hits, and Richmond miscues. Zach Carlson’s two-run single highlighted the decisive rally as the Pit Spitters scored five times to walk off the Mummies.

Phillips powered Richmond’s offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, two triples, and four RBIs. Sims added two hits and two RBIs, while Harper finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored as the Mummies totaled 12 hits.

The Flying Mummies will look to regroup Monday as they return to Don McBride Stadium for a Monday night doubleheader against the Rockford Rivets. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM ET.
