Mason Rapp returns to lead the Flying Mummies in 2027 after guiding the team through its inaugural season
Richmond, Ind. – The Richmond Flying Mummies announced today that Mason Rapp will return as Field Manager for the team’s second Northwoods League season in 2027. The first manager in franchise history, Rapp returns to build on the foundation established during Richmond’s inaugural summer at Don McBride Stadium.
“Richmond, I couldn’t be more excited to return for year two of Flying Mummies baseball!” said Rapp. “Year one was easily one of the biggest highlights of my coaching career. The passion for Mummies baseball in the Richmond community was such an incredible thing to see and be a part of building. We are working hard to build a high quality roster, with some returning Mummies already onboard for year two! We look forward to your continued support and an unbelievable second season at Don McBride Stadium! Roll Mummies!”
Rapp’s first season featured several memorable accomplishments, including Northwoods League All-Star selections for Prince DeBoskie and Jackson Thomas. DeBoskie also represented Richmond in the league’s Home Run Challenge, while Thomas went on to earn a Rawlings “Finest in the Field” Award after finishing the season with a .991 fielding percentage.
The Mummies delivered plenty of memorable moments on the field, including consecutive wins over the Kalamazoo Growlers in July that produced a combined 35 runs and 44 hits. Richmond collected 25 hits in the first game, establishing the Northwoods League’s season high at the time. The team also recorded its first shutout in franchise history with a 10-0 victory over the Kenosha Kingfish on August 7.
“Mason brought an energy and commitment to our inaugural season that helped lay the foundation for Flying Mummies baseball,” said Trevor Amerson, General Manager of the Flying Mummies. “He cares about our players and this community, and we’re excited to have him back leading our team. We’ve learned a lot from year one, and we’re focused on building a stronger roster and giving Richmond even more to cheer about in 2027.”
A Fortville, Indiana native, Rapp currently serves as an Assistant Baseball Coach at the University of Minnesota Morris, where he works with the Cougar catchers and assists with recruiting and player development. He previously coached at the University of Mary and with the Northwoods League’s Willmar Stingers. Rapp played collegiately at Defiance College, where he was a three-time Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic selection.
With roster preparations already underway, Rapp and the Flying Mummies are working toward another summer of baseball and community connections at historic Don McBride Stadium.
