RICHMOND, Ind. — The Richmond Flying Mummies (10-19, 27-38) return to Historic Don McBride Stadium on Monday, hosting the Rockford Rivets (15-13, 28-36) for a seven inning double-header as part of a three-game series.
Monday games are celebrated by Hot Dog Happy Hour, with fans able to purchase hot dogs for $1 each for the first hour after gates open.
Richmond are back home following a four-game road trip, splitting both two-game series against the Kalamazoo Growlers and Traverse City Pit Spitters. A dominant 15-5 win in Kalamazoo was followed by a 10-1 loss, while a come-from-behind 3-2 win in Traverse City then saw the Mummies blow a 7-3 lead entering the bottom of the ninth, getting walked off and losing 8-7.
The performance on the road, as well as results from the rest of the Great Lakes East division, officially eliminated the Flying Mummies from playoff contention for the second half of the season, sitting 8.5 games back with seven to play. They join the Growlers (seven back with six to play) and Battle Creek Battle Jacks (ten back with six to play) as division teams out of the running for the postseason.
The battle for the top of the Great Lakes East remains a two-team standoff between the Royal Oak Leprechauns and Pit Spitters, both 19-11, with Royal Oak holding the season tiebreaker. Rockford is still not out of the mix yet, in third place at three games back from first. The fourth place Kenosha Kingfish, having already secured their playoff spot, could still pull off the sweep; however, are five games behind.
Rockford’s arrival in Richmond marks their third trip to McBride, with the Flying Mummies holding a 3-1 series advantage. The Mummies also lead in the season series as a whole, 5-4.
A now familiar member of the starting rotation is up next for Richmond, with JT Huether (1-1, 5.46 ERA) pitching for the first time since before the road trip. Rockford has tapped one of their best arms for game one, with Carter Lund (2-2, 2.13 ERA) on the mound.
In game two, Cayman Huntsman (0-1, 9.00 ERA) is set to start, while Rockford plans to trot out Anthony Sorrentino (0-3, 10.41 ERA)
First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:05 PM EST, with gates opening one hour prior. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
