KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Richmond Flying Mummies (10-22, 27-41) hit the road for the last time this season, pointing their headlights north to Kalamazoo for a two game set against the Growlers (12-20, 33-35).
Richmond are reeling following three straight losses at home to the Rockford Rivets, a losing streak that stretches four games in total. The Mummies were outscored a combined 41-20, punctuated by an 18-2 loss in the final game on Tuesday night. Rockford also secured the season series over Richmond, 7-5, with the three victories.
The Great Lakes East has become a mad dash to first, with just three teams in contention. The Royal Oak Leprechauns (20-11) sit atop the division, one game ahead of the second-place Traverse City Pit Spitters (19-12), with Rockford (18-13) just 1.5 games further behind. 4th-7th place, being the Kenosha Kingfish, Growlers, Battle Creek Battle Jacks, and Flying Mummies, respectively, have all been eliminated from second half postseason contention. Kenosha have already secured their spot as the first half division champions.
The Flying Mummies and Growlers have split their six matchups thus far, 3-3, with the next two games representing the third and fourth being played in Kalamazoo. Richmond’s first trip to Mayors’ Riverfront Park saw both teams come away with dominant wins, 15-5 for the Mummies in game one, and 10-1 in favor of the Growlers in game two.
A pitching rematch is on the docket for this evening’s game, as Richmond’s Hayden Brooks (2-3, 5.50 ERA) and Kalamazoo’s Liam Golden (2-3, 9.00 ERA) are on the mound concurrently once more, mirroring the July 30th matchup between these two sides.
