The Border Cats evened their road trip record at 1-1 with a 6-2 win over the Eau Claire Express Thursday night at Carson Park.
The Border Cats erupted for five runs in the 7th inning and went on to beat the Express 6-2 in Eau Claire Thursday night. The win improved the Cats record to 3-7 and 1-1 on their current six-game road trip. Thunder Bay native Lucas Scocchia (Oakland University) picked up his first NWL win as he tossed 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball in relief. Scocchia allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out three. Ben Allison (Belhaven University) started for Thunder Bay and pitched 5 2/3 innings. The righthander gave up two runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Toronto's Nick Studer (Doane College) continued his hot hitting for Thunder Bay. Studer raised his average to .400, going 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Ty Blankmeyer (St. John's University) doubled and drove in two runs. Cory Kay (Missouri State University) and Tyler Patterson (St. Cloud State) both had two hits while shortstop Nick Oberg (Coastal Carolina) went 1-3 with a run scored in his Cats debut. The Cats continue their road trip tonight in St. Cloud with the start of a two-game set against the Rox. The Rox are tied for first place in the North Division with a record of 7-3.
