The Border Cats received some solid pitching to earn a doubleheader split with the St. Cloud Rox Friday night before 653 fans at Tbaytel Park.  The Rox took the opener 4-1, before the Cats rebounded with a 2-0 win in the nightcap.  In the second game, Kyle Hann from Oakville, ON, provided all the offence with a two-out, two-run triple in the fourth inning.  The big hit made a winner out of starter Gunnar Kay.  The righthander from Dallas Baptist University evened his record at 1-1 by pitching 4 1/3 shutout innings.  Kay allowed only three hits while walking one and striking out one.  Thunder Bay's Lucas Scocchia (Oakland University) and lefthander Wes Helsabeck (Winston Salem State) completed the shutout with Helsabeck striking out three over the final 1 2/3 innings for his first save.  In the opening game, the Rox scored two runs in the first inning and went on to the 4-1 win.  Charles Thielmann (Kean University) got the start and took the loss to drop his record to 1-2.  The righthander gave up four runs over six innings.  Nick Studer (Doane College) drove in the Cats only run with a 1st inning single as he went 2-3 at the plate.  Tyler Rolland (Southern Illinois University) had two hits, including a double, while Hann and Cory Kay (Missouri State University) also had two hits.  The Cats had their scoring chances in the opener, but bounced into three double plays.  The Cats (6-12), head out on the road for a six-game trip starting tonight in Mankato against the MoonDogs at 8:05pm ET.  Ryan Powers (Miami Of Ohio University) will make his debut for Thunder Bay on the mound.  The righthander was selected in the 22nd round of the Major League Baseball Draft last week by the Philadelphia Phillies.
