Adam Collins (10) slides home safely following a double steal in the Border Cats 7-6 win over Mankato Friday night at Tbaytel Park.
The Border Cats rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to upend the Mankato MoonDogs 7-6 Friday night at Tbaytel Park. The Cats were down 5-0 before chipping away and trailed 5-3 before their big inning. Pinch hitter Sal Taormina (Kean University) delivered a two-run single to put Thunder Bay ahead 6-5 and the Cats then executed a double steal with Adam Collins (Central Michigan University) scoring the seventh run. Collins went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and one run scored while Tyler Rolland had a 2-3 night with a double and a run scored. Gunnar Kay (Dallas Baptist University) started for the Cats and lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits. Ben Allison (Belhaven University) got his first win, pitching 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. The righthander allowed two hits and struck out one. Devin McLemore (Winston Salem State) gave up one run in the 9th inning and recorded one strikeout for his second save. The Cats and MoonDogs meet again Saturday night at 6:05pm. Ryan Powers (Miami of Ohio University) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay. Powers, a 6'5", 230 pound righthander, was recently selected in the 22nd round of the MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
