Nick Studer (Doane College) hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to give the Border Cats a narrow 3-2 victory over the Mankato Moondogs at Tbaytel Park. The Toronto native, hitless in the ball game, picked up another RBI in the sixth on another sacrifice fly to lead the Cats to victory. Christian Correa (Nicholls State) had a 2-for-4 night at the plate including a triple that gave the Cats a brief 2-1 lead in the seventh. That was enough to end Moondog Starter Taylor Elman’s solid start. Elman was matched by Border Cat starter Ryan Powers (Miami of Ohio University), who allowed one run on four hits while strucking out five. After a solid three innings by middle relief, Lucas Scocchia (Oakland University) was brought in to close the game. Scocchia let up the tying run in the ninth on a Peter Maris single. The Thunder Bay native however kept his composure with a 1-2-3 tenth, for his third win of the year before Studer’s heroics. The Border Cats host the Eau Claire Express on Sunday starting at 5:05pm. Righthander Michael Daley (Kean University) is scheduled to make his first start.
