GELLENBECK’S WALK-OFF DOUBLE SWEEPS BUCKS
The Cats swept the Waterloo Bucks with a 6-5 win off the bat of Joe Gellenbeck (Xavier University) Sunday night at TbayTel Park. The win brings the Cats record up to 15-17.
Thunder Bay went into the bottom of the ninth inning down by one. With Cater McEachern (Trinity University) and Alan Baldwin (University of Hawaii) walked, Gellenbeck came up to bat and hit a line drive to the centre field wall to drive the two home who earned a total of two runs each during the night. The walk-off double gave the Cats the victory in game two of the two game series. The newest addition to the Border Cats Dan Rizzie (Xavier Unviersity) had a notable first appearance notching two RBI’s on two hits.
Cole Stapler (Nicholls State) picked up his second win of the season pitching the last .2 innings allowing only two hits while striking out two. Starting pitching Yuji Suzuki (Concordia University) pitched the first eight innings allowing only one run on five hits while striking out four to set the Cats up for the win.
The Cats head to Duluth for a double header with games scheduled for 12:00pm CST / 1:00pm EST and 6:35pm CST / 7:35 EST Monday night at Wade Stadium.
