THUNDER BAY SHUTS OUT MANKATO FOR SECOND DAY IN A ROW

The Border Cats got another quality start from their starting staff as they opened the second half of the Northwoods League season on a winning note. Righthander Cole Stapler pitched seven shutout innings in Thunder Bay's 2-0 win over the Mankato MoonDogs before a Canada Day crowd of 1,115 at TBaytel Park. Stapler improved to 3 and 1 while allowing four hits and four walks while striking out four. Nate Steger completed the shutout with two scoreless innings of relief for his second save. Alan Baldwin drove in both of the Cats runs with a two run single in the bottom of the third inning. Carter McEachern and Eddie Povasec both added doubles as the Cats won for the seventh time in 10 games.

The Cats look to close out the three game series with another win Thursday night at TbayTel Park at 7:05pm.
