CATS SWEPT IN WILLMAR

The Thunder Bay Border Cats record dropped to 21-27 with three losses on the road in Willmar to the Stingers. With a 6-4 loss in game one of a double header followed by a 10-2 loss the Cats got off to a rough start.

In game one it was Zach Thiac (Nicholls) that took the loss pitching the first two innings allowing four runs on three hits while Nate Steger (Winston Salem) came in for 2.1 innings allowing the last two runs. Jared James (Long Beach) notched one run for the Cats on three hits while Joe Gellenbeck (Xavier) and Tyler Green (Vanderbilt) put up one run a piece on two hits each.

Julian Loret de Mola (Nova Southeastern) went 4.1 innings in the second seven inning game of the night on Saturday allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out two while Jimmy Murphy (Fordham) closed out the last 1.2 innings allowing the final two runs. Dan Rizzie (Xavier) and Matt Batten (Quinnipiac) both got the Cats on the board with one run a piece while Jared James (Long Beach) was credited with two RBI’s for the game.

In the final game of a three game series the Cats fell 7-2 to the Stingers. Yuji Suzuki (Concordia) pitched the first three innings allowing seven runs on nine hits while Anthony Morris (St. Thomas Aquinias), Kenny Glover Jr (Savannah State) went two scoreless innings before Mikael Mogues (Seton Hall) closed out the last inning for Thunder Bay. Matt Batten (Quinnipiac) notched one run on two hits while Jared James (Long Beach) picked up one run on three hits and one RBI.

The Cats return home Tuesday evening to face the Rochester Honkers at 7:05pm EST at Tbay Tel Park..
