Pair of Virginia Infielders Added to Border Cats Roster
Thunder Bay, Ont.– The Border Cats have added two from the University of Virginia Cavaliers to their infield.
Andy Weber (Virginia) was named All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio his senior year at Aurora High School with a .433 batting average. Weber holds the record for triples with 10 and helped the team hit a record high of 29 double plays and lead the team RBI the last three years. He led his high school to the first two state final four appearances in the programs history in 2013 and 2015. Weber has notched a .258 batting average with 23 hits and 9 RBI in his first year with the Cavaliers while maintaining a .925 fielding percentage.
Jack Weiller (Virginia) was a three time All-New-York nominee and was named to the ABCA/Rawlings High School All-Northeast Region Team in 2015. Weiller batted a .397 with 114 hits, five home runs, and 61 RBI at John Jay-Cross River High School and finished his high school career with most wins (66), most playoff games played (16), and most playoff wins (12) in the history of the school.
The Border Cats are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 23rd season of summer collegiate baseball in 2016, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 140 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS),Jordan Zimmermann (DET), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Lucas Duda (NYM) and Ben Zobrist (CHC).
