May 19, 2017 – Upon learning of the impending delays to the playability of Port Arthur Stadium’s surface the Thunder Bay Border Cats have been forced to relocate the following dates originally scheduled to be played in Thunder Bay.

6/3 and 6/4 vs. Rochester @ Legion Field, Marshall, MN

6/5 and 6/6 vs. St. Cloud @ Mills Field, Brainerd, MN

6/7, 6/8, and 6/13 vs. Duluth @ Wade Stadium, Duluth, MN

6/15 and 6/16 vs. Waterloo @ Riverfront Stadium, Waterloo, IA

The home opener for the 2017 season is now scheduled for Sat, June 17^th vs. Eau Claire at 6:05pm at Port Arthur Stadium.

“Since the final out of the 2016 season our staff has been diligently working to make the 15^th season of Border Cats Baseball something that the Thunder Bay community can be proud of” said Dan Grant, General Manager of the Border Cats. “Obviously, we are extremely disappointed for our fans, sponsors, players and coaches. This does not change our determination to provide a quality experience at Port Arthur Stadium when the field is playable.”

Members of the 2017 Cats team will begin arriving in Thunder Bay on May 28^th and will host their annual Fan Fest on Sunday, May 28th at 1pm at Intercity Shopping Centre. The Cats will potentially hold two practices in town before heading on a 17 day road trip to start the season.

“First and foremost, this is a disappointing development for our fans. Nothing compares to the excitement of Opening Night,” said Kyle Smith, President of the Border Cats. “We will provide whatever assistance we can in getting the playing surface at Port Arthur Stadium up to par.”

Single game, Mini-Plan, and Season Ticket Holders with tickets to any of the relocated home games can exchange them for any remaining 2017 Border Cats home game at the Port Arthur Box Office. If you have questions, please contact the Cats offices at 807-766-2287.

“The Northwoods League has always valued Thunder Bay as a great community with supportive fans, and we have been working in the off-season with the Border Cats organization to deliver a terrific game day experience to them,” said Northwoods League President Gary Hoover. “It may be delayed, but the fans will not be denied that experience.”
