Cats Start Road Trip with Loss to Express
The first of an eight game road trip saw the Thunder Bay Border Cats visit Eau Claire, WI to take on the Express. The Cats escaped near disaster multiple times as they got out of bases loaded jams three separate occasions throughout the game. However, the Express were still too much for the Cats as they won 4-2. The Cats starting pitcher Aaron George struggled to keep the Express off the bases as he allowed six hits in only 2 2/3 innings. However, he was able to keep the Cats in the game by only allowing two runs and striking out seven. Cody O’Brien came in relief for George and pitched very well in his three innings. Unfortunately, the one run he allowed ended up being the deciding run but pitched a great game.
Offensively, Billy Cook recorded his first hit as a Border Cat with a shot to left field. Cook’s teammates Biondic and Lozada provided the two RBI’s for the Cats. The Cats were threatening in the ninth as they had the winning run at the plate but were unable to capitalize.
The Cats will look to bounce back tomorrow against the same Express as they will be celebrating the Fourth of July in Eau Claire. Tomorrow will also mark the final game of the first half as the Cats will look to gather momentum into the second half.
