BORDER CATS END FIRST HALF WITH A WIN!
The final game of the first half saw the Thunder Bay Border Cats visiting the Eau Claire Express on the Fourth of July in the United States. The Cats got off to the early 1-0 lead and held onto that lead for the first 5 ½ innings. Eau Claire then bounced back taking a 4-1 but it would not last for long as the Cats scored three runs in the eighth inning to tie the game. The game went to extra innings tied at four but in the tenth inning, the Cats regained the lead.
The Cats were kept in the game by a great start from Jake Mielock and the rest of the pitching staff. Mielock went five innings allowing only two hits to lower his ERA to 1.21. After leaving the game Seth Rosenberg made a solid first impression in his debut striking out two in his only inning. The final pitcher was Evan Johnson who pitched a terrific three innings striking out four and picking up the victory.
The win marks the final game of the first half of the 2017 Northwoods League season. The Cats finished the first half with a record of 13-22 and will look to build momentum into the second half. The Cats will start the second half by visiting the Mankato Moondogs. With a blank record, anything can happen so it’s time to cheer on our Cats as they push for the playoffs.
