The Thunder Bay Border Cats have reached the halfway point of their 8 game road trip, with a 2 game series in Bismark, North Dakota. Going into this game the Border Cats and Bismark Larks each held a second half record of 1-1 each.
Both teams were held off the scoreboard until the 3rd when Gabe Lozada scored Andy Weber on a single with an error committed by the Larks infielders. The Border Cats quickly added another run when Noah Strohl scored Gabe Lozada on a sacrifice fly for his 23rd RBI on the season.
Ben Gilliland got the nod for his first starting assignment of the season. Gilliland pitched a solid game until Bismark got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th and tied the game with 2 runs. Gilliland’s night was done in after the 5th finishing the night with a stat line of: 5 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER and 4 K.
Bismark took over the lead in the 5th and never looked back. With Bismark’s relievers pitching another three solid innings, the Border Cats never had a good scoring chance to try to take back the lead and win the game. The Border Cats in the season are sitting at a record of 14-24, whereas the Bismarck Larks are at 17-21.
