GAME 1: 10-3 LOSS
In the afternoon game, the Border Cats got off to a 2-0 lead but soon after the Huskies took control scoring ten unanswered runs to win the game 10-3. The Cats starting pitcher Alex Babcock pitch well in his 6 innings pitched allowing 4 earned runs while striking out 5. Offensively, Gabe Lozada picked up two RBI's on a bases loaded single and Nick Ely got his first hit and RBI in his first game as Border Cat. Thankfully, the Cats had the opportunity to bounce back right away as they took on the same Huskies in the second game of the day.
GAME 2: 7-3 WIN
In the second game of the day the Border Cats were looking for redemption after the afternoon game. Both teams were held off the scoreboard until the third inning when Thunder Bay opened the scoring with a RBI single from Andy Weber to score Colton Thomas. The Border Cats kept the Huskies at bay with a solid start from pitcher Blaze Bohall, who’s ending stats were 6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R and 5 K’s. Brady Hill picked up the win for this game after coming into the game in the 7th and Evan Johnson shut down the Huskies in the 9th to keep them off the scoreboard. The 9th inning is when the Border Cats blew open the game, racking up 5 runs on 4 hits to finish the game. At the end of the game we had RBI’s recorded by Dougherty, Biondic, Strohl and Venice. Andy Weber scored 2 RBI’s on the night. Even though Duluth won the Superior Cup this year, we will be back next year to take the cup back across the border.
Tomorrow night the boys are back in town starting a 6 game homestand. The first game is at 7:05pm against the Lacrosse Loggers. Make sure to buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
