Moondogs Take Game One Over Border Cats
It was a very warm evening as the Border Cats took on the Mankato Moondogs in game one of the two game series. The Moondogs won the game 13-8 with Austin Bollinger picking up the win for the Moondogs.
The Cats scored first on a bases loaded walk but shortly after the Moondogs bounced back to take a 3-1 lead. It would remain this way until the fifth inning when Dayne Sommer scored by dodging the catcher at home plate. This would be the closest the Cats would get as once the scoreboard changed from the bottom of the fifth inning to the top of the sixth inning the Moondogs took complete control. They scored 10 unanswered runs and took a commanding 13-4 lead. The Cats did score four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning but it was not enough.
On the mound, the Cats starting pitcher Travis Bruinsma hoped off the plane and onto the mound. He pitched very well in his six innings allowing only three earned runs and struck out two to keep the Cats in the game. Bruinsma and his teammates will now look to bounce back tomorrow at 1:35 PM as they will take on the same Moondogs squad. Join us for Intercity Shopping Centre day at the ballpark.
