BIG 5TH PROPELS BORDER CATS TO VICTORY IN HOME OPENER

The Thunder Bay Border Cats scored 3 runs in the 5th to surge past the Mankato Moondogs 5-2 in home opener at Port Arthur Stadium. In the 5th, Billy Cook scored on an error, which was followed by a Nick Conti RBI triple and Trent Athmann RBI single .  All 3 runs were unearned in the inning. The Border Cats also got RBI from Evan Russell and Brady Gulakowski. Cook added 2 hits, 2 walks, and had two runs in the victory. Drew Gooch threw 4 innings in relief giving up just one earned run and picking up the victory. Andrew Gross threw two shutout innings to get the save. Nick Novak and Kenton Crews had a pair of hits each for the Moondogs. The two teams wrap up the 2-game set with a Sunday matinee at 1:35 pm. All kids 12 and under are free. The 6-game home stand will then continue Monday as the Border Cats begin a-2-game set with the Eau Claire Express.
