1ST INNING BURNS BORDER CATS IN LOSS
The Eau Claire Express scored 6 runs in the 1st inning en route to a 7-2 win as they sweep the 2-game series with the Thunder Border Cats at Port Arthur Stadium. Omar Maldonado failed to get an out in the 1st as he finished giving up 4 walks, a hits batter, and 5 earned runs while picking up the loss. The Border Cats did outhit the Express 9-3 but ended up stranding 11 men on base. Trent Athmann led the way for the Cats with 3 hits and an RBI. Garrett Saunders and Shane Connahan each had a pair of hits in the defeat. Josh Gaworski got his 1st win of the season, while Zac Strange had a pair of RBI in the victory. Thunder Bay pitcher Justin King continues to impress early in the season as he hurled 6 innings in relief, giving up just a single earned run. The Cats will try to snap a 3-game losing streak Wednesday night against the Willmar Stingers. 1st pitch is 7:05 pm. It is Weenie Wednesday which means 2-for-1 hot dogs.
