Cats Fall to Beetles in Alexandria
On a night where the Willmar Stingers resembled the Alexandria Beetles, they managed to extend the Border Cats losing streak to eight games. The game was played in Alexandria, MN. to commemorate the defunct Alexandria Beetles/Blue Anchors. A Willmar Stingers yearly tradition where they wear special Beetles jerseys and play in front of a packed house in Alexandria.
As for the action on the field, the Border Cats once again got off to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. To further continue the current trend, the Cats gave up the lead in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two-run home run and an RBI triple. The offense did not stop there as the final score ended up being 10-7 Beetles. Throughout the entire game, the Beetles would get a lead and the Cats would find a way to get back into the game. This would continue until a two-run sixth inning put the Cats out of reach. The standout performers offensively for the Cats included Garrett Saunders who went 2-4 while scoring three runs. Even Russell drove in two runs and got on base three times. Brandon Trammell, Billy Cook, and Mark Vierling added the other RBI’s for the Cats. On the mound, Justin King pitched three innings of one-run baseball while striking out three.
The Cats now return home for a quick two-game weekend homestand versus the Rochester Honkers. First pitch tomorrow is at 6:05 PM. The box office will open at 11 AM so come get your tickets! The Cats need your help to end this losing streak!
