Billy Cook Sparks Cats First Winning Streak
The Border Cats have won three games in a row! It was a great day for the Border Cats which saw them sweep the day-night doubleheader. The first game was another schoolday game where the Cats played in front of 1300 young baseball fans. In that game, the Cats won in walk-off fashion 6-5. Ben McConnell hit into a fielder’s choice to score Evan Russell and win the game for the Cats. Prior to the walk-off, it was a back and forth ballgame which saw six lead changes. Brady Gulakowski hit a two-run home run to give the Cats their first lead. From there Cam Pearcey added two RBI’s and McConnell added another to give the Cats a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning. Andrew Gross came in for the Cats and gave up a sacrifice fly to blow the save and push the ballgame to extra innings. However, thanks to the heroics from McConnell and Russell in the bottom of the 10th inning Gross picked up the win.
In the second game, the Border Cats crushed the Loggers 9-2. The Cats got on the board early and often. Billy Cook led the way with his three RBI’s to give the Cats a solid lead. From there Garrett Saunders and Mark Vierling added more runs. Nick Conti also hit his first home run of the season to extend the lead. Starting pitcher Joey Cardamon was lights out as he pitched eight complete innings of two-run baseball. He also struck out five Loggers and did not give them any hope to get back into the game.
The Cats will now hit the road for a quick two-game series in Duluth, MN. First pitch tomorrow from the Wade is scheduled for 7:35 ET. You can follow the action through our Twitter account tbbordercats. The box office will resume regular hours of 11 AM – 4 PM.
