Gulakowski Leads Border Cats to Bounce Back Victory!
The Border Cats rebounded from last night’s loss with a 6-4 win over the Duluth Huskies. It was a back and forth game which saw three lead changes and plenty of offense. The Huskies took a 3-1 lead in the 5th inning and it could have easily been another game where the Border Cats are unable to make a comeback. However, the Cats have recently shown some fight in them and clawed their way back into the game. In the following two innings after the Huskies took the lead the Cats scored five consecutive runs. Brady Gulakowski hit an RBI double to score Nick Conti and Cam Pearcey singled to score a couple more runs. The Cats took the momentum and used it to add on additional insurance runs in the later innings.
Offensively for the Border Cats, there were lots of solid performances. As previously mentioned Brady Gulakowski went 2-5 with a couple RBI’s and a run scored. Billy Cook and Evan Russell each added a couple hits. Nick Conti and Garrett Saunders both scored a couple runs.
On the mound, Erik Key started the game and kept the Cats in the ballgame by pitching six innings. He limited the Huskies high powered offense to only four runs and as a result, he earned his second win of the season. John Sakowski pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Andrew Gross finished the game with his fourth save of the season.
The Cats now return home for a four-game Canada Day weekend series against the Waterloo Bucks. Tomorrow at 7:35 PM is our second fireworks game of the season!
