Cats Win Marathon Firework Special
The Border Cats beat the Waterloo Bucks 8-7 on an exciting back and forth ballgame that ended 12:34 AM. It seemed like the ballgame would never end as the Bucks pushed it to extra innings. In the extra frames the Bucks took the lead in the 12th inning but in the bottom half, the Border Cats found a way to tie the game. An RBI double from Mark Vierling saved the day for the Cats and pushed the game to another inning. It was not tied for long as the Bucks took another one-run lead in the 13th inning. However, just like the previous inning, the Cats found a way to tie the ballgame. Nick Conti grounded out but a run would come in to score. In the 14th inning, the Cats managed to keep the Bucks scoreless and in their half got the bases loaded for Cam Pearcey. Pearcey would get hit by a pitch to win the ballgame for the Border Cats.
Mark Vierling had a solid game for the Cats, going 4-6 with four RBI’s. Billy Cook and Cam Pearcey both added a couple hits. Brady Gulakowski drove in a run and walked three times. On the mound, Connor Centala started the game and pitched five innings of three-run baseball and struck out nine. Calvin Wood, Andrew Gross, and Luke Malone came in relief and pitched nine innings. They combined to only allow two runs and nine strikeouts.
The Cats are back in action today for the annual Canada Day game! First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM. The Cats will be wearing special Thunder Bay Canucks jerseys that will be auctioned off after the ballgame in support of the Special Olympics Thunder Bay. The box office opens at 11 AM.
