Alex Nolan Dominates Bucks in Split of Doubleheader.
It was a beautiful day of baseball that featured two Games 30 minutes apart. There were two games today to make-up for yesterday’s rainout. In game one the Border Cats won 2-0 but could not complete the doubleheader sweep as they lost game two 3-2.
In game one the Border Cats sported their Canada Day jerseys and represented the Thunder Bay Canucks. Alex Nolan led the way for the Canucks as he dominated the Bucks hitters. He pitched a complete game shutout and only allowed three Bucks to get on base. The Bucks could not touch the Burlington, Ontario, native as he lowered his ERA to 1.64 and won his fourth game of the season. In the second inning, Cam Pearcey drove in the only two runs as an RBI single scored Gunner Hellstrom and Mark Vierling.
In game two the Cats struggled to get the bat on the ball as they only registered two hits. Brady Gulakowski and Mark Vierling were the two Cats credited with the hits. The Cats were able to get on the scoreboard through walks. The Cats walked 11 times in the ballgame. Billy Cook scored on a wild pitch and Willie Bourbon hit a sacrifice fly to score Brady Gulakowski. Andrew Gross started the game for the Cats and kept them in the ballgame. He pitched six innings and allowed only three runs.
The Cats are back in action tomorrow against the same Waterloo Bucks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. It’s the final game of the homestand before the Cats leave for a six-game road trip. The box office opens at 11 AM. If you can’t make it you can follow the Border Cats on Twitter @tbbordercats.
