Cats Claw their Way to a Strong First Half Finnish
The Border Cats ended the first half strong by taking three out of four games over the Waterloo Bucks. The Cats won the final game 10-6 but the game was never as close as it may seem. The Cats scored four runs in the first inning to take a commanding 4-1 lead. The Cats then added on six more unanswered runs and held a 10-1 lead through eight innings. In the ninth, the Bucks found a way to score five runs and make the game look a little closer than it actually was.
The Cats were led offensively by a few Border Cats. Cam Pearcey went 3-4 with one RBI and scored two runs. Billy Cook, Ben McConnell, and Brady Gulakowski all added a couple RBI’s. Also, Shane Connahan had a 3-4 performance. On the mound, Connor Fabing was terrific in his five innings allowing only one run. Calvin Wood came out of the bullpen for Fabing and pitched well until the ninth inning when he allowed five runs.
The Border Cats finished the first half with a record of 13-23. Although it was not enough to clinch a first-half playoff spot the Cats have put together a solid few weeks of baseball and have built positive momentum going into the second half. They are 7-3 in their last ten games and will look to continue the momentum into a second-half playoff push.
The Cats now head back on the road for a lengthy six-game road trip. The trip will see them visit Eau Claire, Bismarck, and Mankato. First pitch tomorrow from Eau Claire, WI. is scheduled for 6:05 ET. You can follow the action through our Twitter page tbbordercats.
