Border Cats Get Thumped in First Game of Second Half
The Border Cats got off to a rough start to begin the second half of the 2018 Northwoods League season by losing to the Eau Claire Express 13-6. The game was very exciting in the first four innings when there were four lead changes and plenty of runs scored. The Border Cats got on the board first thanks to a two-run home run from Shane Connahan (1). However, the Express bounced right back in the bottom half of the inning by scoring four runs off of the Cats starting pitcher Joey Cardamon (2-2). In the next inning, the Border Cats reclaimed the lead thanks to RBI’s from Brady Gulakowski and Gunner Hellstrom. The Cats once again could not hold the one-run lead and allowed another Express run to score and tie the ballgame. From that point on the Express took over and never allowed the Cats to get back into the ballgame. They would score eight unanswered runs and take a commanding 13-5 lead.
Joey Cardamon who has been so great for the Cats all season long was unfortunately charged with nine earned runs in just 3.1 innings pitched. He started the ballgame with a 1.94 ERA and a 2-1 record. After the game, his record stands at 2-2 and his ERA has jumped to 4.03. Offensively, all but one Border Cat registered a hit. Cam Pearcey and Billy Cook both had a couple hits. Brandon Bossard made his first plate appearance as a Border Cat and went 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
The game was delayed an hour and a half due to rain in the area but everything was cleaned up in time for the ballgame and all the fourth of July festivities. The Border Cats will play a rematch tomorrow against the same Express. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 ET. You can follow all the action from Eau Claire through our Twitter page tbbordercats.
