Key Locks Out Express in Border Cats Win
Erik Key was the story of the game for the Border Cats as he dominated the Eau Claire Express in a 6-1 Border Cats win. Key pitched seven complete innings allowing only one hit and striking out five. He picked up his third win of the season and gave the Border Cats their first win of the second half. John Sakowski came in relief for Key and continued to dominate the Express batters. He allowed a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning but closed out the game for the Cats.
The Cats chipped away throughout the night, scoring runs in five different innings. They got on the board first thanks to a bases-loaded walk and a defensive error from the Express. The Cats continued to chip away throughout the night as the offense was spread out throughout the lineup. Ben McConnell, Nick Conti, and Brandon Bossard added the RBI’s. The Cats seemed to always be applying pressure offensively and never allowed the Express to get comfortable. Every Border Cat got on base at least once with Nick Conti, Brady Gulakowski and Brandon Trammell getting on base three times each.
The Cats will now head to Bismarck, ND. to take on the North Division’s first-half champion Larks. First pitch is scheduled for 8:35 ET. You can follow all the action through the Border Cats Twitter page tbbordercats.
