Cats Sweep Larks and Continue Strong Second Half
The Border Cats continue to pick up the wins after a 5-2 win and series sweep over the Bismarck Larks. The pitching once again was the main story of the game as Drew Gooch (2-2) started the game for the Cats and pitched a gem! He went seven complete innings of scoreless baseball and only allowed six hits. The Larks could not get anything going as he continued to find ways to get outs. His solid performance has now improved the Cats recent success as they have won 10 of their last 13 ballgames.
The Cats scored all of their runs in two different innings early in the ballgame. In the first inning, Billy Cook tripled to score Cam Pearcey and then Nick Conti hit a sacrifice fly to give the Cats an early 2-0 lead. Two innings later Brady Gulakowski hit an RBI single and Shane Connahan doubled to score two more in what was a three-run inning. That was all the runs the Cats needed as the pitching shut down the Larks for the rest of the game.
The Cats will now continue their road trip in Mankato, MN. as they will start a two-game series with the Moondogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 ET. You can follow along through the Border Cats Twitter account tbbordercats.
